hi followers, i just wanted to talk about something really important real quick.
today is self injury awareness day (or self harm awareness day), and two years ago, on march 1st, i lost a very close friend. his name was damian. we grew up together, shared everything, even our first kiss. we didn’t go to the same school, which bothered me because i know that he was bullied throughout elementary school. sadly, we started to grow apart after a few months.
the next time i saw him was a year after that. we spent the entire day shopping and at the local playground. when he stood in front of me on the swings, i saw something on his arms. cuts. i asked him about them and he denied it. he said that he was fine and that he was happy.
he didn’t talk to me after that.
exactly one week later, i got a phone call from his mother telling me that he had passed. he and his dad were driving back from the doctor when an 18-wheeler collided with their SUV head on. both of them died.
i began to cut. i felt like in some weird way, that it would bring me back to damian and everything would be okay. i felt like it took the pain away.
it didn’t.
i became depressed and developed insomnia. it affected my performance at school, my attitude, my family, and most importantly, myself. i saw different doctors for it and was prescribed many antidepressants. soon after, i couldn’t think about anything other than suicide. i thought it would make everyone around me happier, bring me back to damian, and end the pain.
now here i am, a year later. clean. i decided to flush the medication, focus on my well-being, and each night, i pray. i pray for damian, i pray for me, and i pray for anyone else who thinks that suicide or self harm is the only option. because believe me: IT’S NOT. luckily, i got out of it myself; i came to my senses. but i know that many other people deny the fact that they are harming themselves, like damian. and to those people, STOP. it’s not worth ending your life. it’s not worth that drop of blood, the stinging, or the tears. reach out to a friend. reach out to me. because i swear. i will be there for you. i’m sure your friends and family members will, too.
god put you on this earth for a reason. don’t take that away from yourself.
i’m sorry this post is so long - i know i’ll lose followers, get hate, but i don’t care. reblog this if you want. hate me if you want. just know that i’ve become stronger, and that’s what’s important to me.
